Ryoji Ikeda's new long-term art project superposition will consist of a performance piece, installations, lecture series, publications and some other related works.
superposition is about the way how to understand the reality of nature at atomic scale. This project is inspired by mathematical notions of quantum mechanics which deals with this property of nature, where we cannot fully describe the behavior of even a single particle except its probability. To completely describe a particle, one must include a description of every single possible state and the probability of the particle being in that state.

superposition [performance] is Ikeda's new major performance piece which will be premiered in 2012. Performers will appear in his piece for the first time, performing as operator/conductor/observer/examinee with a multiple range of video images and other challenging technologies installed on the stage. All components on the stage will be in a state of superposition; sound, visuals, physical phenomena, mathematical concepts, human behaviors and randomness - that will be constantly orchestrated and de-orchastrated at the same time in a single performance piece.
superposition [installation] will be an immersive audiovisual experience requiring visitor's engagement while superposition [lecture series] will involve scientists and intellectuals in conversations curated and moderated by the artist in several cities internationally.
The superposition project questions the boundary amongst music, visual arts and performing arts, and extensively exploring the intersection between art and science.
