OVAAL was founded in Brussels in 2010 by Mark Lorimer and Cynthia Loemij, based on their sharing of movement dialect, the same need to communicate. Their performance aspirations are the lust for rigour, accuracy and clarity.
Cynthia and Mark have been working within Rosas and Anne-Teresa De Keersmaeker for over 15 years.
They have also worked previously independently together on a video installation entitled Mirror Modulation for artist Manon De Boer's show in Frankfurt.
Both taught at PARTS (Brussels), ImpulsTanz (Vienna), The Laban Centre and LCDS (London) and Panetta Movement Centre and Movement Research (New York).

Cynthia Loemij:
“I speak in my head while dancing - to myself, to my dance-partners, to the audience.  The words are sometimes in the front of my mouth and they come out whispering.(…)  What we want to say is often a mixture of longing, fear, anger, power, consolation, hope; also the ingredients of strong rhetoric, poetry or theatre”.

Mark Lorimer:
“... and how confident I am that we can communicate something both personal and universal in this work.  Avoiding a potentially introvert or anecdotic memoir, broadening it's frame to explore intimacy as a human endeavour with a friend, colleague and inspiration, to make a choreography that really speaks.”

Quaternaire produces the performance to intimate and represents OVAAL worldwide
