Back to Back Theatre is one of Australia’s leading creative voices, focusing on moral, philosophical and political questions about the value of individual lives.
The company’s idiosyncratic voice circumnavigates the universe, questions logic and defies the imperative to be “normal”.
In its 21-year history, Back to Back has forged its own unique relationship to theatre, developing an original, distinctive artistic voice and a working process that supports its ensemble of actors with intellectual disabilities as its creative core.
The company is supported by The Australia Council for the Arts and Arts Victoria.
Quaternaire represents Back to Back in Europe.
Bruce Gladwin, Artistic Director, specialises in the development of adventurous theatrical work, working as director, designer and writer. In addition to his critically acclaimed work at Back to Back Theatre (1999 to present), his previous work with Arena Theatre Company garnered the prestigious ASSITEJ International Honorary President's Award for inspiring, provocative and experimental ways of expressing a new theatrical language.
